#1 in 7.9 billion

The world is absolutely going through a testing time right now. For the first time since the end of World War 1, the entire human population is under threat from a global pandemic. That’s a huge thing to contemplate to say the least.

So what can I do? you may ask yourself. I have my own issues – family to feed, bills to pay. Why should I care about everyone else? I have to look after me – I’m #1. It’s precisely that thought process that has seen many instances in this country of a minority rebelling against measures put in place to protect everyone. A seemingly precious few taking out their frustrations – and at times very literally – against what they see as the Government dictating to them as to what they can and can’t do and then refusing to accept that the measures put in place are there to protect everyone, including those who protest.

I get it that we live in a democracy and we have the freedom to choose. I respect that and value our democratic society. At times it would be tempting to raise the middle finger to all these restrictions and join in with the protesting minority, to do whatever the f*** I want just to look after #1, but everyone’s freedom to choose to agitate does NOT mean that my freedom to protect myself – and my family – from a very pervasive virus is any less important. We all have freedom of choice but nobody can make my choice for ME. Think of the people most important to you before taking action and see whether that makes a difference.

We are all in this together.
